How to choose blades for dog clippers?
I would like to purchase the Oster A5 turbo 2 spd clippers for myself and parents. The dogs that would be trimmed are American Eskimos (smaller size 20 lbs) Yorkies and a lhasa type dog. I was trying to figure out which blades to purchase with it and it is very confusing. I am hoping maybe someone has experience in this and can give me some guidance on it. Thanks
It depends on how short you are looking to trim your dogs. They give the length the hair will be next to the blade on the guide. You will need at least 2 of each blade due to blades getting hot or dull or damaged so then you have a back-up. Also buying blade coolant to use. You don't need the 2 speeds for a novice & it will only make the blades hotter faster which you might burned our dogs. Most dogs like yours for a summer trim would get #4, #5 or #7 for a very short trim on the body. Using a #10 for shaving the privates & between the eyes & shaving the pads. You will need scissors to finish up trimming.
