What type of barking tool can I train my dog with?
I have a shi-tzu, age 1 year. She is a yapper. I wanted to get her a barking collar but have reservations about the electric shock kind. I have looked into the citrus spray kind and also the ultrasonic kind... has anybody had experience with any of these? what are the positives and negatives?
NEVER USE THE SHOCK COLLARS!!! If you use them when a dog is barking at things the dog will then become afraid of that thing. Plus if an unexperienced person uses the shock collar that could damage the dog's confidence and personality.
I would go old fashoned and get a soda can or some kind of can and fill it with small rocks. Then tape the top closed and when ever your dog barks, shake the can. The noise will startle her and she will stop.
Or you can make some type of command (such as a whisle) and when she hears that whisle for the fist time she will stop. As soon as she stops, praise her with either treats or by voice and touch. Hope it works..and please don't use the shock collar!
